If you’re looking to optimize your WordPress Blog post and do not have a WordPress Virtual Assistant then you’ve come to the right place. In this blog post we will be showing you a few steps you can take to make sure your blog post are properly optimized giving them a better chance of actually being read!
WordPress SEO YOAST Plug In is a Must!
I am in no way affiliated with Yoast but I tell everyone and anyone I meet who is building out a site that they must download the Yoast SEO plugin. It really is the easiest way to make sure you are optimizing your blog posts the right way. If done correctly Yoast SEO will confirm you have done a good job by providing your pages/blog posts with a green light. So if there is anything you or your WordPress Virtual Assistant takes away from this post it’s this! Take a minute and download it now.
First things first, do your research on the keyword you are about to use in your blog post. Once you come up with a keyword you can start looking at different ways of incorporating it into your article. For example my keyword for this article is “Wordpress Virtual Assistant”. By this point I have already used it 3 times in the body of this article (keyword density) and also have it in my title tag.
Use SEO friendly URLS:
Don’t let WordPress hand you a generic URL instead incorporate your keyword into the URL of your post. A Good Example for this article would be www.upautomation.com/wordpress-virtual-assistant
H1 Tags are you friend:
An H1 tag is your “Headline Tag”, some CMS add this automatically but just make sure to check to see if it has been added. In wordpress you can view your article in the code mode just to make sure it has been added.
Since Google and other search engines can’t determine what your images are by just looking at them you need to add a Alt text. This text tells search engines what the images you added are about. For example if my keyword for an article was “Playful kittens” then I would add an image of kittens playing and the alt text on that image would be “Playful Kittens”.
Use Social Sharing Buttons:
A little known secret. Social Sharing buttons gives your blog post “Juice”. Although it may not play a direct role in optimization it does play a major role indirectly.
Sharing your content puts more people on your post with some of them linking back to your site. These backlinks are valuable as they tell Search Engines your page is relevant and useful. The more backlinks you have to your posts the higher it will go in ranking.
Post long Content:
There has been much debate about how long a blog post should be for SEO purposes. Some feel that anything under 1000 words isn’t worth it while others say that 400 is just enough. Most of our blog post range in the 600 to 1000 word count. This is where I tend to rely on YOAST SEO. Yoast SEO lets you know if you content is too short. They usually put the mark at 400 words.
So there you have, these are simple steps that any individual or WordPress Virtual Assistant can take to improve your ranking on Google’s Search engine or any search engine for that matter.
